There are a wide variety of contact lens manufactures out there so which lens should you choose. When thinking of purchasing lenses for the time one or two particular brand names come to mind. Certainly perhaps the one most of us will know is Johnson and Johnson’s Acuvue brand, they do seem to be the top choice for many contact lens users and there range is varied so I took a more in depth look into the Acuvue range of lenses and the top 2 other brand names Focus and Freshlook.
The Acuvue Range
1 day Acuvue – This is probably the most used lens it allows the user to start with a clean pair of lenses everyday as you simple throw them away when you go to bed which means that there is less chance of your eyes becoming irritated due to accumulation of debris build up. The lenses are easy to handle and insert due to a tint but this will not change the colour of your eye.
Acuvue Original- This was the world’s first daily disposable contact lens and is still a very popular choice among users. This lens is a one week extended wear lens and has a colour tint enabling ease of use when cleaning in fluid. The lens also has an AV indicator to ensure proper insertion of the lens.
Acuvue 2- This lens comes next in popularity and is a two week daily wear lens that also has the inclusion of UV blocking. The lens has an inside out indicator to make proper insertion of the lens easy.
Acuvue Advance- Another popular choice this is a two week daily wear lens that contains a Hydroclear moisture rich element, proper insertion of the lens is helped with an inside out indicator and the lens is tinted for ease of use.
Acuvue Oasys- This is the latest offering from Johnson and Johnson who advertise this lens as a breakthrough in comfort. The lens makes use of the Hydroclear plus technology which helps to reduce soreness and redness of the eyes.

Focus Dailies- This is the number one among users of the Dailies range; the lenses are designed to be disposed of on a daily basis which eliminates the need for cleaning.
Focus Night & Day- The second most popular choice this lens offers up to 30 days of continual use thereby eliminating the need for daily removal and cleaning.
