Launch of Acuvue Oasys for Astigmatism now in India 21/04/2010

Acuvue Oasys for Astigmatism

Brand new and introduced in June 2008, these lenses are specifically designed for people with Astigmatism. Astigmatism is the most common vision problem, caused by an irregular shape of the cornea. Astigmatism can usually be corrected with contact lenses, such as Acuvue Oasys for Astigmatism. They will help take away the blur that is caused by this condition.

These lenses come with Hydraclear technology and UVA and UVB blocking which blocks more than 90 percent of UVA rays and 99 percent of UVB rays.

Hydraclear ensures a long lasting soft, moisture rich and silky feel. In addition they have the same reduced edge-height design as Acuvue 2.

Features and Benefits of Acuvue Oasys for Astigmatism

·                  Acuvue Oasys for Astigmatism contacts are easy-to-use and comfortable enough to wear for up to 7 consecutive days.

·                  They are slightly tinted, so the lens is easier to recognize and handle plus a high level of UVA and UVB Blocking helps to protect portions of your eyes.

·                  The Hydraclear technology brings together a remarkable moisture rich wetting agent with high performance base materials to form clear, wettable lenses resulting in a unique, silky, soft feel.

·                  Acuvue Oasys for Astigmatism lenses stay moist all day and the soft and flexible material provides comfort throughout the day

·                  The so called ‘Accelerated Stabilization Design’ (what a nice marketing phrase) is promising to balance the lens in place and quickly realigns the lens if it rotates out of position. It provides patients with astigmatism with consistent, all-day vision and comfort.

Who should wear Acuvue Oasys for Astigmatism?

·                  These lenses should be considered if you experience discomfort with your current contact lenses.

·                  They are ideal for people who thought they could not wear contact lenses because of astigmatism.

Most Popular Brand of Contact Lenses:

There are a wide variety of contact lens manufactures out there so which lens should you choose. When thinking of purchasing lenses for the time one or two particular brand names come to mind. Certainly perhaps the one most of us will know is Johnson and Johnson’s Acuvue brand, they do seem to be the top choice for many contact lens users and there range is varied so I took a more in depth look into the Acuvue range of lenses and the top 2 other brand names Focus and Freshlook.

The Acuvue Range

1 day Acuvue – This is probably the most used lens it allows the user to start with a clean pair of lenses everyday as you simple throw them away when you go to bed which means that there is less chance of your eyes becoming irritated due to accumulation of debris build up. The lenses are easy to handle and insert due to a tint but this will not change the colour of your eye.

Acuvue Original- This was the world’s first daily disposable contact lens and is still a very popular choice among users. This lens is a one week extended wear lens and has a colour tint enabling ease of use when cleaning in fluid. The lens also has an AV indicator to ensure proper insertion of the lens.

Acuvue 2- This lens comes next in popularity and is a two week daily wear lens that also has the inclusion of UV blocking. The lens has an inside out indicator to make proper insertion of the lens easy.

Acuvue Advance- Another popular choice this is a two week daily wear lens that contains a Hydroclear moisture rich element, proper insertion of the lens is helped with an inside out indicator and the lens is tinted for ease of use.

Acuvue Oasys- This is the latest offering from Johnson and Johnson who advertise this lens as a breakthrough in comfort. The lens makes use of the Hydroclear plus technology which helps to reduce soreness and redness of the eyes.

The Focus Range

Focus Dailies- This is the number one among users of the Dailies range; the lenses are designed to be disposed of on a daily basis which eliminates the need for cleaning.

Focus Night & Day- The second most popular choice this lens offers up to 30 days of continual use thereby eliminating the need for daily removal and cleaning.

Focus 1 to 2 Weeks Soft colours- This lens offers you the chance to change the colour of your eye while giving you clear, crisp sight and comfort, they have three colours to choose from Aqua, Evergreen and Royal blue.

The Freshlook Range

Freshlook Colour Blends- This was the most popular lens in the Freshlook range of lenses; they are lenses that change your eye colour into one of nine different colours. The lenses also have an indicator for easy application.

Freshlook Dimension- are one to two week lenses especially designed for light colour eyes, they enhance light eye colours and have a dark outer starburst pattern that make eyes appear brighter.

Freshlook Radiance- This lens claims to be the first 2 weeks to a month lens that add pearlescent effects to both light and dark eyes. They don’t affect the natural eye colour but rather compliment it.

    Question: How Much Do Contact Lenses Cost?

    Answer: It is difficult to estimate how much you may spend on contact lenses because so many variables can affect the price. Optometrists determine their own fees for contact lenses, as well as for contact lens exams and follow-up visits. Many optometrists combine these fees into one price, so make sure you ask what you’re getting for your money.

    Many different types of contact lenses are available today. Your optometrist will be able to determine the type of lenses that would be most beneficial to you. Typical prices of contact lenses vary depending on the type of lens and the prescription required.

    To give you an idea of the range out there, here are some average contact lens prices taken from commerical opticals, online contact lens retailers and private doctors’ offices.

    *Bausch & Lomb Soflens 59 Rs.600/- to Rs.800/-

    * Johnson & Johnson MOIST ACUVUE Rs.1200/- to Rs.1300/-

    * Freshlook Colorblends Rs.350/- to Rs.450/-

    * Cooper vision Frequency 55 Aspheric Rs.600/- to Rs.800/-

    Keep in mind that some or all of the contact lens fees may be covered under your insurance plan.

    If you are considering ordering contact lenses online, pay particular attention to the shipping charges and volume discounts. Typically, prices may only be one or two dollars higher in a private doctor’s office, where contact lenses are usually shipped very quickly. Online retailers may have slightly lower prices but longer shipping periods (1 to 2 weeks, on average). It may also be more difficult to order custom-designed lenses online.

    Remember that contact lenses are a safe and convenient correction option, but they are also medical devices that must be cared for properly in order to maintain healthy vision. Also, never swap lenses with anyone — sharing contact lenses can cause infections and other serious eye problems.
